Breath of Gold transforms the window of Barovier&Toso’s Venice boutique into a living tribute to the invisible force that gives glass its form: air. Continuing the brand’s exploration of natural elements after earth, fire, and water, this chapter turns to the ethereal, capturing the dialogue between breath, material, and creation. The installation frames glassmaking as suspended poetry, where what cannot be seen becomes the essence of transformation.
A constellation of papier-mâché figures animates the space, each frozen in the act of blowing. Their collective rhythm recalls the choreography of a furnace on Murano, where precision, heat, and human gesture converge in alchemy. Surrounding them, a softly glowing golden lattice evokes the protective screens once used by glassblowers, shaping a scene that celebrates the tension between fragility and strength, discipline and imagination.
In the foreground, Venetian crystal vases titled Yoroi, Dune, Palatino, and Posidonia stand as quiet protagonists. Their tones and textures harmonize with the installation’s luminous palette, reflecting warm golds and subtle transparencies. Each piece embodies the meeting point between centuries of craftsmanship and a contemporary design sensibility, translating artisanal knowledge into refined forms that feel both timeless and distinctly present.
Every element of Breath of Gold honors transformation as both gesture and metaphor. From the sculpted expressions of imagined artisans to the molten vessels of crystal, the installation captures the suspended instant when breath becomes structure. Air, ephemeral yet essential, is revealed as the true sculptor of matter, allowing tradition to expand beyond technique and find renewed life within the light and language of today.
